Inquiry Program

The TransformEd Creative Studio invites all curious minds to participate in a Reggio Emilia inspired emergent curriculum experience that encourages the hundred languages of expression (the many ways they can learn and express themselves) and ignite their creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, questioning, and overall confidence (21st century skills).  Beyond books and paper/pencil tasks, your child will have the opportunity to explore around the various spaces (indoor and outdoor) that promote relationship building and inquiry, while interacting with materials such as mirrors, clay, sketch pencils, sand/water, blocks, loose parts, magnets, light table, mud kitchen, various other art supplies, and much more.  Based on their interests and wonders, we will begin to document a project of their choosing and study our learning within inquiry meetings.  The children will become empowered as active participants and protagonists in their own learning experience.  They will essentially form a research team!  Each week we will review documentation of what happened prior, engage in hands-on creative learning to dig deeper into our inquiry questions and plan our next session together.  Parent(s)/caregiver(s) involvement throughout this planning process will also help us to extend our sessions into the home.

I look forward to bringing this curious group of leaders together and seeing what magic and discoveries unfold!

Please note that the children can take a snack break whenever they feel hungry or relax with a guided yoga break.

Inquiry is a process that cannot be rushed, and as such, it is recommended that you consider signing up for all three sessions (all three months) to get the most out of this creative experience!

    TransformEd registration information:

Please note that HST is added to your purchase and that there is a Canadian and US/International price for each session. You may pay using your credit card through PayPal or I can also accept an email transfer if you contact me.

In order to be fair to those enrolling in these sessions, it is of paramount importance that we maintain honest practices.  Therefore, do not share logins (I can see when you login twice), and be truthful about your address and location.  If you are not a Canadian resident, then with your currency it wouldn't be right to have the advantage of such a large discount over those who live across Canada.  Finally, similar to how we honour copyright and the hard work an individual puts into their writing, I would appreciate and trust that you won't register once and have a few people around your computer.  In the end only one individual will get the credit and certificate.

I thank you for respecting these wishes and already know that it won't be an issue!!!

All sessions are non-refundable, as the numbers affect overall planning and coordination.  You may, however, give your spot to someone else and email me about the changes so that I can update my list.  Think of this like a ticket to a concert - once you register, your spot is confirmed.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

For conference/workshop providers or Early Childhood programs/organizations:

I will continue to offer consultations and present workshops (face-to-face or virtually) for groups at conferences, childcare centres, courses, networks, school boards, etc.

    Calling all curious Children!
An opportunity for Kindergarten and Grade 1 aged kids!

    -complete blog post here-

I am hoping to bring my creative studio space to life with some curious Kindergarten and Grade 1 aged children who might be interested in weekly inquiry meetings that will stimulate their creativity!

I only have space for 4.

Here are the details that you can pass along to someone who would like to participate:
    • curious/creative child in either Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten, or Grade 1 (maximum 4 participants)
    • Sunday inquiry meetings from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in my creative studio space (Major Mackenzie and Weston area)
    • snack break / music and movement half way
    • $25.00 +HST per hour (special introductory price)
    • Begins February 5-March 26 (8 weeks)
    • Must commit to all sessions
    • An orientation visit will be scheduled prior to meeting the group

    What will the session entail?

I will meet the four children and spend time getting to know them better, while finding out what their strengths and wonders are.  Using these insights, I will facilitate an emergent curriculum process with them on a topic of their choosing.  In other words I will take their ideas and support their learning, while empowering them as active participants and protagonists in their own learning experience.  Each week we will review documentation of what happened the week prior, engage in hands-on creative learning to research our inquiry question, and plan for our next session together.  The children will be researchers and will learn many 21st century skills, including, but not limited to, communication, collaboration, problem solving, creative innovation, critical thinking, etc.

I look forward to bringing this curious group of leaders together and seeing what magic and discoveries unfold!

Registration deadline is February 1st, 2017.  For more information and to secure your child's spot, please contact me here: joannemariebabalis@gmail.com.

Testimonials Kindergarten AQ course from my former students:
The Kindergarten AQ Specialist course offered through York University, taught by Joanne Babalis was an incredible experience.  I took two other courses online and was left feeling uninspired. This course invigorated me and pushed me to take risks in my own FDK classroom and throw myself into the new program. The course inspired me to be a leader in my school and I feel excited to start a new year with fresh ideas and a lot of creative experiences. Thanks for your inspiration Joanne. You are a true leader!
    Leah Liederman
    FDK Teacher, YRDSB

I absolutely loved my Kindergarten Specialist course through York University, taught by Joanne Babalis.  It lived up to all my expectations and more and was the perfect way to end a year long journey of Kindergarten PD.  This course was inspiring in so many ways.  It taught me how to be a leader and inspired me to want to inspire others to be leaders in their journey of learning in FDK.  From the guest speakers to the class excursions, the connections to technology, creative experiences and life-long connections to colleagues, as well as, Joanne's guiding, supporting and inspiring leadership, the course was an A+!!

    Maria Marinuzzo
    FDK Teacher, Dufferin-Peel CDSB

After 6 1/2 years of teaching kindergarten, I decided it was time to register for Kindergarten Part 2. Having followed Joanne's blog, My Classroom Transformation, I knew that I had to enrol in the course with Joanne.  Joanne (and the many wonderful educators I met in the course!) transformed my teaching practice!  Upon completing my Part 2, I immediately registered for Part 3 with Joanne!  I would highly recommend anyone who is taking their Kindergarten Specialist to enroll with Joanne.  She is extremely knowledgeable and provides an environment that fosters a growth mindset.  The material and the assignments are extremely practical and can be transferred to your day-to-day classroom practice.
