Joanne Marie Babalis is a Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten Teacher for the York Region District School Board.  She teaches at Pierre Berton Public School in Woodbridge (Vaughan), Ontario, Canada.  Joanne Marie Babalis is passionate about designing spaces that inspire inquiry-based learning and creative innovation for twenty-first century literate learners.  She has been teaching for over ten years and believes that all children are born ready to learn, inquire, and play.

Joanne Marie Babalis is currently studying at York University, as a part-time PhD student.  She recently graduated there with her Master of Education and her Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education.  During her graduate studies, she learned about a variety of early childhood approaches (Reggio Emilia and Emergent Curriculum, Montessori, Project Approach, Constructivism, Inquiry-Based Learning, Play-Based Learning, Mosaic Approach, Waldorf, Outdoor Learning, and Emergent Literacy) that have influenced her academic and professional research, practice, and growth.  With every article she reads, professional learning session that she attends, and colleague that she has the opportunity to collaborate with, Joanne Marie Babalis continues to refine and transform her classroom environment and teaching.

Joanne Marie Babalis is an instructor for York University's Kindergarten Additional Qualification course.  In addition to this, she regularly presents at academic conferences as well as a variety of other professional learning events across Ontario and beyond. During her presentations, she shares her Master of Education research about the layers of Inquiry-Based learning and her experiences in Full-Day Kindergarten using pedagogical documentation.  Joanne Marie Babalis created this blog with the intention of spreading important messages about Early Learning to a greater number of educators and students.  She is always looking for innovative ways to transform education and is committed to illuminating the path of Inquiry-Based Learning for others working with young children.
