My apologies for taking a short break from blogging... Literally right after I submitted my final assignments and prepared for the blog bonanza giveaway I became completely absorbed in planning my son's baptism.
Last month we visited Trista Dutt and Rose Marcelli's classroom at Moraine Hills P.S. (YRDSB). Our #CTInquiry network was still buzzing with new ideas, even during the very busy end of school year time. To be quite honest, I was taken by the commitment to learning, especially in the heat!
I have visited this space several times, and each occasion brings forth new ways for thinking about classroom design, materials, projects, and planning.
Here is the snapchat story that I created that night in the moment:
I almost didn't make our discussion, as my summer course had been earlier that afternoon at York University! Needless to say, the timing worked out and we had a lovely discussion using the article Reggio Emilia As Cultural Activity Theory in Practice by Rebecca S. New.
Here is a peek into the Kindie Korner:
Next week (Wednesday, July 27th, 2016) we will be having our Summer Social at the North Thornhill Community Centre - 300 Pleasant Ridge Avenue. Our meeting will be held during the same time, as our other sessions (6:00-8:00 p.m.).
If you are interested in attending this session, there are only spaces available for 30 participants. We will be co-constructing our creative learning environment for some adult colouring and will also enjoy a potluck dinner.
For this reason you will be asked to follow these steps:
1) Email joannemariebabalis@gmail.com.
2) Indicate whether you have attended any CTInquiry sessions this year. I will cross reference my attendance list and give you priority.
If you are unable to attend this session, we will have another one in August with a slightly different format. You can also follow along and colour in your own home while tagging photos to #CTInquiry hashtag on Twitter and Instagram. Of course I will be using Snapchat live for those who are using this social media platform.
If you are attending future events and would like to help with any of the following:
- hosting a future session
- providing snacks
- arriving earlier to guide participants to our meeting room
- donating a book or gift for the classroom we visit
- co-facilitating the discussion in person or during our Twitterchats
- setting up a provocation using something you tried in your own context (optional: with documentation)
- presenting a project or strategy that you are proud of or that you feel the group would benefit from
- sharing a new professional resource
- recommending articles that are available online for us to read at future meetings
- offering other ideas, events, locations, etc. for #CTInquiry
This is our network, so please consider getting involved! You may let me know via email (joannemariebabalis@gmail.com) and we can make arrangements!
A huge thank you is extended to our inspiring hosts, Trista and Rose. I hope to return in the Fall with the Kindergarten AQ course!

Again a reminder that our July 27th date is a special Summer social. I have rented a space within an art room of a community centre for a creative adult colouring experience. The spaces will be limited to 30 participants, and a RSVP will be required. See above for the complete instructions!
Reggio Emilia is a living and breathing example
of the Italian tradition of experimentation and
innovation,
and the benefits of hard work, courage, and collaborative inquiry
in constructing meaningful interpretations of a quality education.
