My Niagara Workshops - A very overdue post!

In May 2014, I was invited to present alongside Dr. Carol Anne Wien and a few other graduate students/educators who I admire (Ellen Brown, Mary Jane Miller and Brenda Jacobs) in the Niagara Region. The focus was on pedagogical documentation and a studio experience. This was my first experience with the ECCDC. The ECCDC is the Early Childhood Development Centre, a charitable organization that offers professional learning opportunities for educators, training sessions, coaching, resources, and more.

I was blown away by their session and when asked to write a testimonial for their group I shared the following:

I have had the distinct privilege of presenting with the ECCDC, a leading provider of professional development in the early years.  During our collaborations they offered high quality and engaging experiences for educators across Ontario and beyond.  It is truly an honour to work with and learn from the best in the early childhood field!  Their commitment to our youngest learners is inspiring!

I recall being so impressed by their leadership and was beyond humbled that they invited me back the next Spring as a guest speaker.

Since then, I have been presenting in the Niagara Region a couple of times a year or visiting to hear other knowledgeable educators deliver their workshops for my own learning purposes.

Here are a few photographs from my previous three sessions:

  • Moving away from themes: Embracing inquiry-based learning, a process that values children as leaders and learners (Presented in April 2015)

  • Thinking and learning time made visible: iPhoneography and portfolios a combined session (Presented in November 2015)

  • The hundred languages: Mini studio experiences and insights to support our understanding of integrated learning with the revised Kindergarten Program document (Presented in January 2017)

Special thanks to the community of artists who joined us for the session to inspire our learning with their mini studio spaces (ateliers):

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank the ECCDC for inviting me over the years to present for their groups.  If you live in the Niagara Region, or want an excuse to visit I truly recommend their quality offerings!  You will not be disappointed!
