Art by Wassily Kandinsky |
Every Monday our morning meetings always commence with special stories from our weekends. Julie (Mrs. Ham) and I encourage the students to share memorable moments or photos that will spark the interest or conversation with other students.
Today I shared my weekend of paint and bubbles (with one of my nearest and dearest friends/relatives) at Markham's Paintlounge. http://www.paintlounge.ca. This post is dedicated to her, as a way of thanking her for making me feel like a child again and giving me a permanent smile well into the next day!
Paintlounge is one of the most unique places that I have visited in York Region. The owners call their concept social painting and want customers to discover how fun and relaxing painting can be, even if they haven’t touched art since grade school! While it looks like a studio in many respects, it also resembles a cafe, and the two together make the perfect combination. All the art materials are provided for you, so that you can sit back and enjoy the music, lemonade green tea, and feed your creative soul!
Inspired by Kandinsky's art piece (photo included above), I wanted to paint something with dots that would provoke the students to continue to engage with the Dot Project.
This week we will be using Kandinsky's painting as inspiration with a variety of materials including paper, water colour paints, and plasticine. The students will write about why they chose what materials, and add their masterpiece to our growing wall of dots!

Attention parents there are also special events for children:
Paintlounge offers several child-related events. Coming up this week is their PA Paint Day with autumn as their theme (Friday, September 28th, 2012) followed by their Kids Halloween Bash (Sunday, October 28th, 2012) where they will have painting, face painting and interactive activities for kids. For more info, you can check out http://paintlounge.ca/kid#offers.Another popular experience at Paintlounge are their birthday parties. They generally include a canvas and a lemonade for a party price if there's 6 or more kids involved. (http://www.paintlounge.ca/childrens-parties/)
Be sure to visit them soon, and if you do I would love to see what you paint!
Thanks Mia for discovering this special spot of happiness. I sincerely can't wait to go back...
