Inquiry Planning Organizer

I had the good fortune of connecting with some very knowledgeable Kindergarten educators today to chat about inquiry-based learning.  We spoke about inquiry examples, inquiry resources, the inquiry cycle, and inquiry planning.

Here is the planning template that I created last year to help Julie and I plan our inquiries.  Again, similar to our documentation notes organizer, this is just one way to plan for inquiry.  It is not the right way, but rather a starting point.  In fact, after our conversation today, Julie and I are thinking of improving it.

Please use this as an entry into your inquiry planning, or for your own inquiry chat.

We would also be thrilled to hear how you are planning for your inquiries.

  1. I love your blog and thank you for sharing inquiry planning sheet. I would love you to share some of the inquiry examples and inquiry resources that were shared by your group. Your area on writing has inspired me to do the things you have done with the children in my class. They are writing even more than they did before. I placed 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 gray envelopes on string, where the children can place their writing samples. They decorated their envelopes any way they wanted using a variety of materials. After they have finished writing something they eagerly ask to place it inside their envelope, after they have date stamped it.Thank you for inspiring me!

  2. Thank you!

In the next few months I would be happy to share some completed Inquiry Planning Organizers with all of you. I will just scan the ones I have completed and upload them onto the blog as pdf files.

I also plan to take a strong focus on inquiry from now until the end of my research, which I am hoping will be complete by August of this year. This will allow my to share resources, key learnings, etc.

It's so nice to read that you are using the writing wall as an idea. This was Julie Ham's idea when I suggested a writing wall for the students' daily writing, it was her who thought of having the wall low to the ground so that the students could independently access it each day.

    Glad to inspire...

    Joanne

  6. I am so interested in downloading your inquiry planning sheet. I have been trying but have been unsuccessful. Is there something I need to do. I am a grade 2 teacher in Thunder Bay and I am trying to find ways to adapt my planning to encompass inquiry learning.
